  Meet Gizmo!

Meet Gizmo, a sweet 5- year-old boy who was surrendered to NBGR, along with his friend Sable, because of his owner’s failing health. Gizmo is a very happy boy who adores getting all the attention you can dish out. He was taken in by his previous owner when he was found in the country in horrible shape. She opened her home and cared for Gizmo until she herself developed health issues and had to surrender him to NBGR.

Even though we don’t know his history, we know that Gizmo is now a very happy and sweet boy. He eagerly greets people and does well with Sable and his tiny foster sister. When he was taken for his vet appointment, Gizmo did not bark or react negatively to the other dogs.

In his previous home, he was crated for extremely long hours. According to his previous owner, Gizmo had never had an accident in the house, but when he went to his foster home, he was a little too anxious to let everyone know he had arrived. We think a big contributor to Gizmo’s house-training lapse was nervousness because of the change to another new environment. To protect his surroundings, we put a belly band on Gizmo. Now that he has settled down, he is doing much better, but he still needs to be under a watchful eye.

Gizmo needs to lose a few pounds to reach the ideal weight for his frame. He walks well on a leash and loves to go for walks. His foster parents are working with him to not have accidents in the house, and they are teaching him to sit on command. They are also working to break his habit of wanting to jump up on your legs. He just gets so excited he has trouble restraining himself – but he is smart, and he will learn with consistency.

Gizmo adores being loved on and cuddled. He loves to play tug-o-war and play with toys. He also liked to rumble with another dog in his previous home. So an equally playful furiend in his new home would be a bonus for this boy.

Gizmo is enjoying the freedom of space outside a crate in his foster home. He is lightning fast and loves to bolt out open doors, so his new family will have to be extra vigilant to make sure this little guy does not escape and to make sure he is always secured within a fenced yard.

Gizmo can be placed in a family without his friend Sable, but if you have room for both, we believe they would feel more secure moving to a new environment as a team. He will need a patient family who will continue the work of his foster family so he can be his very best.

Gizmo weighs 14 lb., is completely vetted, micro-chipped, and ready to melt your heart. If you are interested in making this little boy, or him and Sable, a part of your family, please let us know by completing an adoption application. Already adopted from NBGR in the past? Just let Connie know your arms are open!

Gizmo is located in Houston, TX.

If you are interested in adoption please fill out our Adoption Application. If you would like more information, please contact Connie Lawrence at conniel@andell.com.

Keep in mind that we prefer to place dogs within driving distance of where they are being fostered. If someone from outside the local area is approved for adoption, they must be willing to fly in to get the dog and that can only happen if the dog is stable enough to travel in the cabin with the passenger.
