  Meet Big'n!
(#3527)

Big’n came to NBGR as an owner surrender. His owner loved him dearly but was no longer in a position to care for him. This boy is a wonderful, sweet, happy little fellow. He is 10 years and 4 months old and he weighs about 11 lbs. Big’n had a tumor on the back of his head when we got him in to NBGR. After some testing it was determined that the tumor had some involvement with his skull but we didn’t know whether or not the tumor was malignant – so we went ahead and had a surgery done to remove as much as possible of the tumor. Big’n is a lucky boy – his tumor was NOT malignant!! It may return in the future but the vet feels it is a slow growing tumor and that the average time for a tumor like this to return is 2-3 years. His stitches are out now and he is healing beautifully. Big’n also has a heart murmur – grade 3/6 – but no signs of heart disease at all at this time. He does need his anal sacs drained by the vet once every 2 months or so.

Now that you know of his special needs – on to the good things about our sweet guy. He likes to go for a walk and does well on a leash – but prefers to limit his walks to ten minutes or so. He is very well housebroken and hasn’t made any mistakes in his foster home. He does very well with the other dogs in his foster home – but if the play gets rowdy he retreats to his foster mom’s lap. He really loves to sleep in the big bed with his foster parents – although he will sleep on a dog bed in their bedroom if necessary. He sticks very close to his person – especially on the couch. He travels well in the car – although if you go through the drive through he thinks you should buy him something too and might yell at you if you don’t! He knows how to sit and stay. He was fed from the table in his last home but he is working on his manners and learning not to beg. You have to be careful as he will run out the front door to greet the mailman or anyone who rings the doorbell.

This boy will make someone very happy. If you are comfortable monitoring his health issues and would like a loving senior boy to keep you company – please complete our adoption application.

Big’n is being fostered in Cooper City, FL– but could also have a ride up to the northeast as his foster mom is traveling to CT on October 19th.

If you are interested in adoption please fill out our Adoption Application. If you would like more information, please contact Vicki at vboneill@optonline.net.

Keep in mind that we prefer to place dogs within driving distance of where they are being fostered. If someone from outside the local area is approved for adoption, they must be willing to fly in to get the dog and that can only happen if the dog is stable enough to travel in the cabin with the passenger.
