"An NBGR girl well loved and missed by Mary Gale"
In 2004, I adopted Kabuki from NBGR after learning that her foster family was moving and she needed a home immediately. On 24 hours notice, I drove from Northern California to Topanga Canyon, and there I found a very shy and unsure little girl. I brought her home, and she quickly became a fast friend to my other Griff, Lily.
I didn't know much about Kabuki, only that she was about 3 or 4 years old, had come from an abusive situation, had no socialization, and was in desperate need of love. She didn't know how to live in a house, and she didn't trust people. But over time, with trust and security, she became a lovely pet. She learned to express her joy with a wide grin, race through the house, and to run happily through the grass with her other Griff companions. Her favourite perch was a large cushion on my couch, from where she happily observed all the comings and goings of the household.
Over time, as other Griffs came into our life, she accepted all with grace and friendliness. She was the little old lady of my pack, and she personified the lesson that love overcomes many obstacles. Her passing was sudden, but the memory of her will last forever.
Rest easy, little Kabuki. I will always love you.
