Brimley

My name is Jessica. I adopted a wonderful Griffon from NBGR in 2008. Back then, he was "Grayson" but when he joined our family, he was named Brimley. He was being fostered up in Sacramento. I just wanted to let you know that after a wonderful 9 years (almost a decade!) with him, our little angel crossed the rainbow bridge on Tuesday.

Brimley was suspected to be between 11-12 years old, and he was our everything. In June of this year, he was diagnosed with Cushing's Disease. He had been a little trooper -- though tired and weak most of the time -- dealing with so many tests and procedures at our local vet. Earlier this week at home, he suffered multiple seizures and sudden trauma that our vet and the pet hospital we brought him to suspect he succumbed to a horrible brain tumor. He was in crisis. Making the decision to end his suffering and let him go was the hardest thing my partner Joe and I had to do.

Brimley lived a wonderful and adventurous life. He loved long car trips, hiking in the Oakland hills and even enjoyed his first plane ride this year to Portland, OR. He was a travel companion to wine tasting along the California coast, the life of any party, and the coolest little beard you'd ever met. Passerbys would often stop us to take his picture and he had quite the following on Instagram!

I just wanted to let the organization know that I feel truly blessed to have had him in my life. Being in CA we don't see many Griffs available on the West Coast. When we saw him in Sacramento, we knew it was meant to be. It goes without saying, if there is ever another Griffon in need in the California area, please keep us in mind. Brimley had a profound effect on our lives when he came into it, and he had the same effect upon leaving it.
